Care of your lamp or tea lightCare of your lamp or tea light
Rock salt lamps are sold world wide and used in the homes of many thousands of people with wonderful effect and used each day give no problems, but they do require the right conditons and a small amount of care. MOISTURE - Due to the natural rock salt formation of these lamps and tea lights they are hydroscopic which means they will absorb moisture from the air and release it when the build up is great enough to convert the moisture to liquid. This should be taken into consideration when deciding where to place them as some living or working areas are prone to moisture build up. Such places as window sills will attract water moisture to them as the window glass is cold from the outside and the room is warmer inside, especially as summer turns to winter and heating has not already been turned on. Failure to take this into consideration can result in small pools of water forming at the base and may cause staining of polished surfaces if not checked. It is recommended to use some form of tray or barrier mat if you are unable to use the lamp each day to keep surfaces dry. Using the lamps each day is by far the best method to keep them dry as the heat from the bulb soon evaporates any moisture collected. If your electric lamp has become damp dry it out before turning it on, this can be done with a hair dryer of placing it in any dry place such as the floor of an airing cupboard. Once dry try to use the lamp once a day to keep it free from moisture. No responsibility will be taken for any damage or otherwise from this naturally occurring process To keep your lamp or tea light at its best simply use a soft cloth or small brush to clean its surface from time to time, the hard wood base can be cleaned with normal household furnature polish. Note: Salt lamps can be washed in clean warm water so long as the electrics are removed and the lamp is dried immediately in direct sun light or placed in a hot place, if you decide to do this please note that if you scrub the lamp with a brush or with your hands the surface texture will become like a shiny glass and will stay like that when dry, if you want the natural effect then only use a very light flicking action with a clean paint brush across the surface. Washing your lamp is only recommended if your lamp has become in poor condition due to neglect or adverse site conditions, no responsibilty will be taken for the result of washed lamps, but with care you should be able to produce a good end result to sharpen the surface layer.
