The shear size of the Khewra mine is awe inspirirng, to get in there is firstly a train ride from the out side to deep within the mountains heart, there you will find huge tunnels all made from salt in various colours made up from the minerals washed down from falling rain over millions of years. The huge tunnel excavations reveal deep wells 100 feet deep and some are filled with saline water which is impossible to sink in. These tunnels are only one of about 15 levels mined over the generations. |
